What is the importance of primary research? Relate to direct, specific audience feedback.

Primary research means the research that you go out and collect yourself, primary research varies from surveys, questionnaires or observations. Primary is important because it allows a person to make their own research on something and create their own information around It in order that it may appeal to their target audience. Different genders and age groups may have different opinions and the Primary research will help to get to know different types of people and how their needs should be satisfied, using the product.

What is the advantage and disadvantage of  a questionnaire?

Advantage of a questionnaire

1. Practical
2. A great amount of information can be collected during a questionnaire by many people
3. Its cheap
4. A questionnaire is quick so people will most likely spend their time doing it
5. When all the information has been collected it can be used to compare with other information also being collected through the questionnaire

Disadvantage of a questionnaire

1. Through a questionnaire you are not able to see the persons emotions
2. There would be a lack of explanation, so it would be hard to know what the person who answered the questionnaire might be actually saying.
3. Lacks validity
4. There is no way to tell how truthful the person answering is being
5. There is no way of telling how much thought a respondent has put in it
6. The respondent may be forgetful or not thinking within the full context of the situation
7. People might miss out some questions which they don't understand.

Who did you ask and why?

I made sure to ask 20 people and equally shared it between genders, making sure that 10 males and 10 females got it and answered it, as I wanted to see the views of both genders I made sure to give it to people 15 and over, as that is the group that I am hoping to attract with my thriller. The responses that I got from the questionnaires allowed me to have more of an insight in the thoughts of young males and females on thrillers and their expectations on thriller films.

Conclusion

 

This research has been beneficial as it has helped me, to finalise my ideas on my thriller, it has helped me based on the expectations of my target audience. Thanks to my target audience I am able to make decisions that I know that my audience will enjoy.

Planning- Mise En Scene- Mr Smith

In every film production there Mise En Scene meaning that there is  a specific, reason everything



Location:
It will be located in busy hospital set in a suburban city

where:
At the beginning she is going to be set in a room, that is the hospital, the lighting will be dark as we want  the location to appear, mysterious, but then there will be a ray of light showing in other that the audience can see what Is going on and also see the characters face, and start to formulate their ideas towards the character due to what she looks like,

I would like for the audience to be engaged with the production and want to find out more about the characters and the reasons in why the events happening are happening. The towards the setting of the dark hospital room, is that they feelings towards the hospital is that the audience will think of sickness diseases and patients with mental problems.
The blanket that would be used is an important iconography, I want the audience to be oblivious about the significance of the blanket and what the blanket is able to do, in most films when they see a blanket you instantly think of warmth and protection, and  I want the audience to feel like that towards the blanket

Iconography:
 Due to the fact that the character will be a mother she will be holding a  baby wrapped in a blanket, the blanket will be the most important iconography in the film as we are planning to show her killing the baby using the blanket.

Lighting and colour:
the lighting will be dark as we want  the location to appear, mysterious, but then there will be a ray of light showing in other that the audience can see what Is going on and also see the characters face, and start to formulate their ideas towards the character due to what she looks like. Through the production  there will be a dark background colour.

Planning- Preliminary task- Mr Smith

In our groups we have made a preliminary task which has allowed us to try out the camera and practise the use of different shots, sizes and angles.

We started the preliminary video with an over the shoulder shot of Cheila who is panicking when he find out that his business partner does not have the package that he was expecting to get. We used the over the shoulder shot because we wanted to capture his facial expressions and also make sure that the person that he was talking to was also part of the shot.

 We where also able to capture a mid length shot of Cheila, where we got his waist up, but unfortunately we where not able to capture his full head. I really enjoyed this shot because it allowed us to have a closer look at Cheila the tripod really helped as it allowed to move the camera in sync with Cheilas movements.

The low angle shot was something we planned to use from the  beginning because we knew it would make Sean look powerful and dangerous as he's representing a dangerous gangsta.








High Angle shot has been used here to make Cheila look weaker than  Sean, we used the tripod to take this shot, and it really helped because it allowed us to adjust it the height we wanted to.








Whilst we where filming we encountered a number of difficulties, such as finding the right setting was  hard as there was many people walking around and a fair amount of noise. It was hard finding also the right lighting that would look right in the camera.
Whilst  editing we encountered not many difficulties, once we got the hang on how to use the software properly it was fairly easy, and straight forward.




I have learned that editing takes a fair amount of time as there is different amounts of editing techniques that you need to use.

Planning- Production Paperwork- Miss Begum

For our thriller we need  the paperwork in order to ensure that everyone within our group as well as our cast knew exactly what they where doing and what was expected of them. This also helps to clarify ideas, and also helps the group to be organised.






Production schedule:
The production schedule, is what is going on in the filming schedule. This document is to be given to everyone that is taking part in the group from the crew members to the cast members in order that they are aware of where to be and when to be there. The production schedule has to be easy to follow and understand.

Location Recce:
A location recce is a summary of all the locations that have been decided to be used for the thriller. This document needs to be given to everyone that is taking part in the thriller movie so that they know all the information about the location.

Risk assessment
A risk assessment is an analysis of  the location and it identifies all the dangers that are exposed in that location, it also shows how we will overcome all those dangers and make it a safe environment to film in. This document will be given to everyone and also as it is a legal document is will be given to the local council,

Client release form
Its a legal document, that includes the terms and agreements for all the actors that are going to be in the thriller. Everyone that's in the cast should have this document. In the client release form there should be shown an overview of all the risks that there will be.

Location release document that discusses the terms and agreements for the company/council/people about the allowance to film in that area. This document is to be given to the council and all the people in the crew and cast to show

In this post I am going to talk about my character representation which is how every character is presented to the audience. It is important because we have to find the perfect actors who will play the roles well.

Planning- Story Board- Miss Begum

In  our groups we where all assigned to make  story board on the film that we are going to produce the story board helps plan out what you want in your scenes before hand so that when shooting you are able to know exactly what you need. In a story board you describe what's going on in term of micro elements, and you list clearly what micro elements are needed.

                                                        Production Roles

The film industry consist of more than just a bunch of actors it consist of people who do most of the work behind the scenes.

1. Camera operator
The camera operator is in charge of how the scenes will be filmed, by operating the camera angle to capture the shots, angles and sizes. The camera operator will have to work alongside the maker of the storyboard in other to create the perfect scene. The person in my group that will be taking this role will be Josh he will be taking the role as camera operator because he has had practise and experience behind the camera in the past which have led him to cultivate skills that will be useful for the making of our film.

2. The Producer
In the film Hierarchy the Producer is lower that the Director, but still important, the producer assist the director into making decisions. The producer runs around the sets making sure that everything is in the right place and that everything has been taken care of. And that people are ready to start filming. The role of producer will be taken by me as I have the right skills needed to direct, also due to my persona I think that I will fulfil the roles, and because of my job as the director I will also be able to stay hand in hand with both of my roles as they complement each other well.

3. The director
In the film industry there is a very important role, which is the director. The director is in charge of everything, he/she finalises the decisions that are made. Also the director  controls how the scene is shot and what's in the scene and who is in the scene. the role of director will be taken by me also because I have the right skills to direct a film, due to my previous experiences I have accumulated skills that will help me with the direct also I am a particularly loud person so I will make sure that my production team hears me and listens to me when I'm making changes or decisions.


4. The lights operator
When shooting a scene in a thriller movie the lighting is everything, the lighting can change the meaning of a scene, to take care of the lighting there is a lights operator, who is in charge of the lights and what lighting is appropriate for what scene.  Sheila will be taking the role as the light operator as he has had previous experience working as a light operator.


5. Location
The setting can make or break a film, the setting has to be appropriate and has to work hand in hand with the lighting and sound, the Location manager is the one that makes the effort to go out and search for the perfect setting for the movie, the location manager also makes sure that the government or the council is allowing them to use the location needed. Josh will be taking the role of the location manager as he knows most of the spots around this area.



6. Hair, Makeup and costume
The hair, makeup and costume team make sure that the actor look the appropriate part for their characters. As the only female in my group I will take the role of hair, makeup and costume also I have had previous experience in the past doing peoples hair and makeup and also I have an interest in clothes and fashion and will be able to dress the actors appropriately to their roles.


7. Story boarder
The story boarder comes up with the original ideas of what the scene should look like and what camera shots and angles should be used in the scene. The storyboarded works alongside the camera operator to make sure that the scenes include everything that is needed. The role of the story boarder will be taken by Sheila due to his drawing skills.


8. Editor
The editor is responsible for making sure that the movie turns out exactly as planned, the editors takes care of all the bad shooting and also makes sure that all the shootings that where previously taken are put all together as one. The editor role will be taken by Josh due to his previous experience with editing, which has allowed him to gain skills that will be useful when editing our film.


9. Sound technician
The sound Technician is in charge of the sound and is responsible for removing or adding the sound that is needed in the scene. the sound technician will be Sheila due to Sheila's computer skills he will be able to work with the sound that will be needed in the film.


Conclusion
In conclusion, learning all these roles and assigning them, has been beneficial because it allows the group to be organized. Also we are now able to understand what our roles consist of and what we can do to assist the rest of our group.
